How To Stop “Planning” And Get To Work

christy-cegelski-coachingConfession: I’m a total nerd when it comes to office supplies. I can literally spend hours perusing the shelves at Staples…the markers, notebooks, and calendars get me so excited to create a plan, make my to-do lists, and organize every conceivable aspect of said plan. I’m also aware of the fact that I can get so caught up in the preparation phase of a goal or project that it can prevent me from moving forward.

Sometimes it seems like the more planning you do, the more questions there are that come up. There are things to figure out, research to be done, and then, more questions. You want all the answers and all the details ironed out before taking action. I get it!

There’s definitely something to be said for having a plan. It’s pretty important to know what steps you need to take before beginning something new. But there’s also something to be said for taking imperfect action.

As a recovering perfectionist, I know how tempting it can be to not want to put your stamp on anything that doesn’t represent a certain level of professionalism. BUT every aspect of your plan doesn’t have to be perfect and polished. If that’s what’s holding you back, on some level you’re operating from a place of fear.

Here’s the thing: you’ll never be 100% ready to do some things no matter how much planning you do. Confidence comes from DOING, not planning to do. This is the place I can always get stuck if I allow myself to.

Is there something you’re waiting to find all the answers for before taking action? What step can you take today to move forward? Remember: done is better than perfect.

Be Seen. Be Vulnerable. Live Fully.

live-fullyBecoming a coach and putting myself out there in such a public way has been one of the scariest things I’ve done.

Being authentic, sharing my struggles and failures as well as my successes and wins puts me in a position to be judged…and I feel the the weight of that vulnerability. But I also understand that being vulnerable is the only way I can help another person. The only way I can show you that your circumstances don’t define you is by sharing how I haven’t let mine define me.

The truth is, we’re all afraid of putting ourselves out there and being seen. We’re all afraid of being judged, and we’re all afraid of being vulnerable, but life can’t be fully lived without feeling the weight of those fears, and forging ahead despite them.

Blessings, Love, & Light,
