Confession: I’m a total nerd when it comes to office supplies. I can literally spend hours perusing the shelves at Staples…the markers, notebooks, and calendars get me so excited to create a plan, make my to-do lists, and organize every conceivable aspect of said plan. I’m also aware of the fact that I can get so caught up in the preparation phase of a goal or project that it can prevent me from moving forward.
Sometimes it seems like the more planning you do, the more questions there are that come up. There are things to figure out, research to be done, and then, more questions. You want all the answers and all the details ironed out before taking action. I get it!
There’s definitely something to be said for having a plan. It’s pretty important to know what steps you need to take before beginning something new. But there’s also something to be said for taking imperfect action.
As a recovering perfectionist, I know how tempting it can be to not want to put your stamp on anything that doesn’t represent a certain level of professionalism. BUT every aspect of your plan doesn’t have to be perfect and polished. If that’s what’s holding you back, on some level you’re operating from a place of fear.
Here’s the thing: you’ll never be 100% ready to do some things no matter how much planning you do. Confidence comes from DOING, not planning to do. This is the place I can always get stuck if I allow myself to.
Is there something you’re waiting to find all the answers for before taking action? What step can you take today to move forward? Remember: done is better than perfect.
Blessings, Love, & Light,
P.S. If you’re feeling stuck and aren’t sure what the next steps are or how to take them, I’d love to be able to help you map out a plan and support you.
You don’t need to have everything figured out in order to have this conversation. You just need to be willing to explore your next steps.
