How To Write An Amazing About Page for Your Website

Your “About Me” page is one of the most important pieces of content on your website.

Why?

For one,  it’s the most visited page on your site because it’s where your potential clients will go to learn what you’re all about and why they should trust you. You want to use it to share your story, establish yourself as an expert in your niche, and show your dream clients that you’re the real deal.

An amazing About page shares a lot of the same elements of a high-converting homepage (you can read more about that here.) But the main difference between the content on your homepage and the content for your About page is that you want to use your story and your unique value proposition (AKA what you bring to the table) on your About page to drive the action you want your readers to take.

So, how do you create an About page that dazzles your dream clients and makes them realize they just HAVE to work with you?

Start with a benefit-driven mission statement or headline. It should explain what you’re all about (in a nutshell) and why it matters to the people reading it should care.

Share the Cliff Notes version of your origin story. You are your most important success story. Sharing how you experienced the very same transformation you promise your clients brings credibility to the work you do. Start with your struggle, move onto your a-ha moment, and end on a “look at me now” note.

Explain how/why your story shaped who you serve and how you help them. This goes back to the benefits…focus on your ICA’s pain points and how you will eliminate them. You can even include examples of previous clients you’ve worked with and the results they’ve gotten from working with you.

Show your personality. Write in a conversational tone that sounds exactly the way you speak in real life. What would you say (and how would you say it) if you were talking to a friend? Do that.

Don’t forget your call-to-action. I tend to sound like a broken record with this one but always, always, ALWAYS include a CTA. Part of running a business is finding new clients, so you need to take every opportunity to convert a site visitor to a lead.

Remember, your About page is about you (hence the name) but making it about your ideal clients as well is the best way for them to relate to you, see their story in your story, and decide that you’re the one to help them.
